My neighbor got stuck with a stolen skid steer one time. I've heard of Insurance companies removing the s/n plate when they've paid off a claim and then sell the item as "salvage" There seem to be a fair amount of those on the "MISSING ITEMS " lists with law enforcement, or at least I can say I have heard of them being stolen in our own state.Could get interesting if you tag is missing for a reason. They can order a new serial plate for you if everything checks out. They can get the serial number by hooking up the computer but they will run it to see if it is stolen and you could be out a machine if it is. Anybody ever hear of something like this becoming a problem? Machine is a 2003 bobcat track loader with low hours and is original. Dealer hopes to trace serial number through the motor tag but says deal my fall through. Went to trade it for a new one at a dealer and the chassis ID tag is gone.
